As I write this update, it is the beginning of June and there are many things happening this month to look forward to. Nationally, there is a general election; the consequences of which we will only understand over time. We continue to pray for wisdom for our Leaders as they navigate the different issues ahead. Closer to home, we are holding interviews for a new Minister to join the team when Nik leaves. We pray for guidance as we move forward as a church. This month, we will be hosting a welcome lunch for new people to our church. It is exciting that we have new people joining us in our services. We have a performance of Ruddigore and a special film featuring our own Brian Nixon.
In July we have the Civic service as part of the inauguration process for Liz Frost as Mayor of Epsom and Ewell. We have both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor (Neil Dallen) as part of our congregation. Mark and Nik will be chaplain to them and as a church, we will give them our support and prayers. Liz opened Roots in her official role and we look forward to other future engagements. July will also bring the end of term and all the frantic events that have to be squeezed in. Our young people will have finished the exams that they are in the middle of taking at the moment. We wish them all the best. Mark will be back from Sabbatical on 19th July. He and Judith will be hosting a garden party on Saturday 29th July. We look forward to welcoming them back and hearing about all their adventures during their Sabbatical.
I am really pleased that people have already approached me to talk about issues and ideas and I hope that you will all continue to do so. To make it easier to raise things with me, I will be in the welcome area between services. I have also set up a new dedicated email address and regularly check my pigeon hole so please do get in touch.

That Spring Thing
Twenty children aged 5 to 11 came on Wednesday 31st May to enjoy our half term activity day called ‘That Spring Thing.’ Through bible stories, action songs, games, decorating biscuits, prayer stations, planting seeds and dancing we were reminded of God’s love for us shown in the Parable of the Lost Sheep and we thought about what helps us to grow into the people that God wants us to be through the Parable of the Sower. By the end of the day everyone was relieved that I had just about mastered how to do an impression of a butterfly with my hands. Many thanks to all who helped to prepare for the day and helped on the day itself.

Why did the boy sprinkle sugar on his pillow before he went to sleep?
Every so often we have a Ploughman’s lunch for people who are newcomers to the Church. This is a relaxed way to meet other newcomers and find out a little more about the Church.
The next lunch will be on Sunday 11th June from 12 to 1.30pm in the Lower Lounge at the Church and we do hope you will be able to join us for an hour or so. If you have already filled in a Welcome Card I have your details and will send you an invitation. If you haven’t filled in a Welcome Card please will you do so and I can invite you too. The cards are kept on the table just inside the entrance to the Church, or speak to one of the Stewards, and when completed can be put in the brown box on the same table. We do hope that all newcomers will join us for lunch and children will also be very welcome.
