This year our AGM will take place on Saturday morning 21stApril from 10.00am to 12 noon, with a short time of worship.
The AGM includes the appointment of church stewards, who are part of the Leadership Team, and representatives from the church to the Church Council. We also receive the Annual Report which includes a financial statement and a report on our plans from last year and the coming one.
We have decided to have a longer AGM this year to allow more time to share the ideas and objectives that have been agreed by the Leadership Team. We would like to have time for discussion, questions and suggestions from the church as we move forward together, seeking to be part of God’s mission in Epsom.
On Sunday 19th March 2017 we held the Annual General Meeting between the two morning services. There was a good attendance from the congregations. There were several matters of business dealt with. Carol Thorley gave a report of the year as Senior Steward. She is stepping down from the Leadership Team and being Senior Steward. The Leadership team gave her a plant and card to say thank you, and we would like to express our gratitude to her for taking it on suddenly and for all her hard work. Carol is being succeeded by Rachel King who was officially appointed by the meeting with Jane Williams as the Deputy Senior Steward. James (Jim) Bosley, Val Imms, Simon Jump, Kathryn Thompson, and David Williams were also appointed to the Leadership Team. Elizabeth Mulling Smith has stepped down and we thank her for her contribution over the years to the work of the church and Leadership Team. We also had a report from Richard about the Finances as reported in the Annual Report. The Annual Report can be found online here: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/charity-commission and copies are available in the EMC office upon request.
Mark finished with some comments about the plans for the coming year. The Minutes will be available from the Church Office. The format and date of the next Annual General meeting will be discussed and we will let you know the details in the New Year.
EMC Annual General Meeting held in 2015
Annual Report including financial statement: Richard Smith gave a brief résumé of the financial situation, and explained the annual report. This is available on the website, or can be printed off by request, but has not been printed for general circulation as it extends to many pages. He explained that stewards and members of Church Council are Trustees, and as such are liable for the financial situation of the Church,
Steward’s Report: Harvey Morris (Senior Steward) gave a brief report of the activities and meetings of the Leadership Stewards.
Appointments: The Secretary read out a list of current Church Council members and listed those who have resigned. Mark explained that nominations had not been sought previously, but asked if anyone wished to be nominated from the floor, or knew of names to bring forward. Zoë Grant proposed Steve Rebus, who is a member of the music group at the evening service and who sometimes attends the 10.30 a.m. service. Mark then asked the meeting to approve the Leadership Team and no objections were made. He then asked the meeting to approve the Church Council members - the meeting agreed the names put forward.
Minister’s Remarks: Mark addressed the meeting outlining priorities and plans for the first year and his key approaches to ministry. Mark then issued an invitation to everyone to attend a Culture of Invitation Day on July 4th. This will be led by Michael Harvey, and the welcome has been extended to the rest of the circuit and the other church communities in Epsom.
The meeting closed with a prayer led by Mark.
Church Council Members: For those interested, there is a list available in the Church Office of all Church council members and their terms of service.

The members elected are Neil Dallen, Liz Frost, Andrew Jennings, Sharon Lam, John Riley, Elizabeth Smith, Harvey Morris, Ann Arthur, Zoe Grant, Carol Thorley, Rachel King, Betty Mickelburgh and Peter Thompson.
