Pulse is the junior church group for children in school years 1 – 6. It normally meets on Sunday mornings [except All Age Worship services] in the Community Hall. The children and their leaders learn about Jesus and the Christian life using games, craft and age appropriate teaching in small groups. We start the morning at 10.30 am in the Church and then leave, after approx 10mins, for our session, ending at about 11.30 am.
We welcome any children who would like to join us at Pulse on Sunday mornings -- please feel free to come along and see what we are all about !
Changes of Leaders
There have been a number of changes to the leaders of Sparklers and Pulse recently.
2011 has been a challenging year for Sparklers and Pulse with the sad loss of Alison Willard earlier in the year, who had led Sparklers for many years. Val Edmonds and Monica Field decided that after more than 20 years each of working in Junior Church the time had come for them to stop working regularly in Sparklers whilst in Pulse, Christine Armstrong has taken a step back as she concentrates on becoming a local preacher and Pam Brogan has stepped down as overall co-coordinator of Sparklers and Pulse although she will continue as a leader. All of them deserve a huge THANK YOU for all they have done for the children.
Kathy Castledine has taken over as overall co-coordinator and will be working in Sparklers with Hilary Gudge and Luiza Campos whilst in Pulse, Caroline Willcocks and Fiona Atherton have joined the team.
What we’ll be getting up to!
The Water Aid Harvest Challenge!!: As part of our theme of Harvest we are going to raise money for Water Aid’s “Seeds of Hope” appeal, which helps families in Ethiopia struggling to grow crops due to unsafe water. On Sunday 25 September and Sunday 2 October 2011 the children are being asked to hunt at home for all those lost coins and bring them in. We are going to have some fun by throwing the coins in a bucket. If you would also like to hunt out your lost coins and bring them in to support the children then there will be somewhere to leave them at both the 9 o’clock and 10.30 services – thank you.
Visit from our Youth Pastor: Lucy Beard, our Youth Pastor is also going to join our session one week when we are looking at those who have been “Called by God”
Nativity - Finally, the 10.30am service on the 4th December is going to be the Nativity, Sparklers and Pulse will be working hard with Kosmic (year 7+) to perform the story of the birth of Jesus.
SPARKLERS AND PULSE – FUNDRAISING for WaterAid
This Harvest, Sparklers and Pulse have been supporting the charity WaterAid by having a spare change coin collection to raise money for their Seeds of Hope appeal. This aims to help farmers in Ethiopia who can’t grow crops due to unsafe water.
The children have brought in loads of coins from home and have had fun making a coin trail and throwing the coins in a bucket whilst learning about the valuable work that WaterAid does.
Whilst we have not yet finished counting all the coins,
we have raised an amazing £376!!!
This is a fantastic result and we would like to say big thank you to everyone at Epsom Methodist Church who donated their spare change and supported the children in this.
