Holiday at Home 2022

Each year from 2015-2019 inclusive we have run a Holiday at Home event in the first week of August for those who cannot get away during the summer.  Unfortunately we could not run Holiday at Home in 2020 but we did manage to run the event in 2021. .

Holiday at Home, August 2021
Afternoon Tea with Entertainment. (a la Ritz!)
Having had to cancel all plans for our 2020 Holiday at Home summer event due to Covid 19 we tentatively put plans in place for events in 2021. We decided to hold a scaled down event to ensure the wellbeing of all our guests and volunteers. Two ‘afternoon tea with entertainment’ afternoons took place at Epsom Methodist Church, each event attended by about twenty to thirty guests.

Each afternoon we were all welcomed by our very own ‘maître de’, Andrew Jennings, dressed impeccably in his dinner suit! We were delighted to invite Danielle Clarke back to EMC to entertain us with a beautiful harp recital, our minister, Chris Shaw, joined us to lead our guests in ‘Thought for the Day’, dainty finger sandwiches were prepared by a team of kitchen volunteers, exquisite cakes were made by our very talented ‘in house’ baker, Anne Jones, beautiful scones were provided by Sheila King, table quizzes were prepared and enjoyed and every guest went home with a lovely party bag of gifts and goodies. All in all a great success!Anns cakes 2

Holiday at Home would not be possible without a large number of willing volunteers who help make it an enjoyable event for all our guests. Thank you to all of them.

Summer Fun 2019

We have just finished our holiday in the Scilly Isles, Ireland and finally Jersey.  We found fun activities in each place: decorating mugs and coasters and then a photographic tour, with very interesting commentary, around the Scilly Isles. In Ireland we found Irish dancers and Danielle Clarke playing her beautiful harp. On Friday, while in Jersey, Sarah Poole organised our own version of their famous ‘Battle of the Flowers’. We had a rousing finale from Atlantis who entertained us with many of our favourite songs which had some of us up and dancing.

We had our ever-popular morning of hand massage, manicures, Boccia and a 'Strength and Balance' class with Karen Wilson.Everyday Mark and Judith Wakelin gave us a ‘Thought for the Day’ and this was a lovely time of reflection in the middle of our busy schedule.Lunch is a keenly anticipated part of our holiday and as usual, Andrew Jennings, ably assisted by Helen Griffin and Jane Barden, cooked the most delicious meals of roast pork, beef cheeks and sea bass. Thank you to them and all those from EMC who very kindly made the puddings and cakes for afternoon tea.Holiday at Home would not be possible without a large number of willing helpers each day including drivers who bring our guests and take them home again. Thank you to all of them and particularly our team of organisers: Carol, Jane, Janet and Libby.I am handing over the keys of our trusty charabanc into the very capable hands of Pam Brogan and Jane Barden who will be organising our holiday next year. The dates will be Monday 3rd, Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th August 2020 so please be ready to book your seats.
